Meet Helle – Our plant nerd.

Welcome to the green world of Sprout! My name is Helle Haugaard, I am educated in horticulture a. aka. plant nerd, and I hold a Ph.D. in plant pathology. I simply love to see things germinate, grow and turn into flowers! I am eager to share my gardening experience with you and give you gardening tips.  I hope you will experience a lot of joy and happiness when you grow plants yourself.

In 2014, I created the concept tiny gardens. Sprout’s CEO & Founder, Michael Stausholm, heard about it and contacted me. Sharing the same vision of a greener and more sustainable future, we decided to work together, and tiny gardens became a part of Sprout’s growing product portfolio, which I am very proud of. Today, I head Product Development at Sprout, and take care of all our urban gardening at our headquarter in Copenhagen – an office with a huge rooftop garden, which I intend to fill up with plants to make it Sprout in our own urban garden.

CSR commitment

Sprout is ambitious about its CSR commitment, which means that also try to include a social aspect in our products. Specifically, tiny gardens by Sprout is assembled by people attending a governmental program aiming at helping those long term unemployed to get back on the job market.

I have always worked with charity issues besides my ordinary job. At the moment I am working as a mentor for foreign women in Denmark and visiting a mental vulnerable person. I believe that every person has something to give and that we can be better at including people from different communities – as for example the long-term unemployed community packing our tiny gardens by Sprout.

Gardening Tips

Try to plant a sunflower or basil Sprout Pencil or grow a tiny garden. They are some of the easiest plants to grow and growing is fun, life-affirming and a great thing to share – maybe you can even gather people in your own green community? You can find our tiny gardens on our sprouting online shop.
